Church History
For nearly two centuries, Clarksbury Church has been a part of the spiritual heritage of the Harmony and North Iredell County community. The roots of Clarksbury reach back to 1832, when Clarksbury Methodist Church was established near what was then known as Irvin’s Meeting House. The congregation became part of the rich Methodist heritage of the region, faithfully gathering to worship God, hear the Scriptures proclaimed, pray, fellowship, and serve the people of the surrounding community.
Throughout its long history, Clarksbury has been more than a building. It has been a place where generations of families have worshiped, celebrated marriages, baptized believers, mourned loved ones, taught children, and served their neighbors. The church’s cemetery and historic connection to the Harmony community bear witness to generations of people whose lives were connected to Clarksbury. Records from the community continue to document Clarksbury as a place of worship and ministry for families throughout North Iredell County.
In more recent years, Clarksbury has continued its tradition of being both a church and a community presence. The congregation has ministered to people not only through worship and discipleship but also through practical expressions of Christian love.
Today, Clarksbury Church continues that legacy while looking toward the future. The church now identifies as a Global Methodist congregation in Harmony, North Carolina, with a mission centered on glorifying God, proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ, and seeing lives transformed by the Holy Spirit.
As we look back with gratitude, we also look forward with faith. The same God who has sustained Clarksbury through generations remains faithful today. We desire to honor those who have gone before us by faithfully carrying the gospel to the next generation—growing deeper in God’s Word, stronger in discipleship, more devoted to prayer and worship, and more passionate about reaching our community with the good news of Jesus Christ. Our history reminds us where we have come from; our faith in Christ gives us confidence for where God is leading us.
For nearly 200 years, God has been faithful to Clarksbury. We believe the best chapters of our story are still being written—not for our glory, but for His glory and our joy.
