What we believe:

(1) United Methodists believe that the Bible is the primary source and authority for our faith and practice. No other authority can override the authority of the Word of God.

(2) United Methodists believe that there is one God who has revealed Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our God is a personal God revealed to us in the Bible as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This is the doctrine of the Trinity. Jesus is the Son of God; He is God the Son who as the Gospel of John says, “became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). Jesus died on the cross for our sins and God raised Him from the dead and gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit.

(3) United Methodists believe that God’s grace is available to every human being. We are free to repent of our sins and follow Jesus or to reject Him.

(4) United Methodists believe in justifying grace, the grace of God by which, through faith in Christ, our sins are forgiven. Methodists insist that our justification is by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-10), and not through performing good works.

(5) United Methodists believe that Christian believers not only die to sin in justification but are also “born again” to a new life in Christ. This spiritual new birth marks the beginning of the quest for Christian holiness. The Holy Spirit transforms our lives into lives filled with love and joy and a willingness and desire to be obedient to Jesus Christ as Lord over our lives. Methodists believe in “holiness of heart and life”, to use a phrase of our founder, John Wesley.
